Workstyle revolution

Observations on the blog landscape by my OLN colleague, Rich Bowers:

A less obvious virtue of blogging is embedded in the workstyle that blogging has inspired. Tools – like Furl, Bloglines and Wikis – have emerged that support the blogger – but provide that support in a place-neutral kind of way. These applications and the content you create with them, reside in the big blue sky of cyberspace. They do not sit on your computer. You can access these tools – and your blog - from your desktop or laptop, from a friend’s computer, or from a public terminal at a library or airport. Even from a cellphone with SMS texting capabilities. You can research, write and publish anywhere, freeing you up from worries about where files reside, what back-ups you have and where they are, installing new software or upgrades. None of those details matter in the extended blogoshere – tools are always available, and your voice is ready to be heard at the touch of any keyboard attached to the Internet. Blogs may be changing the mediascape, but they are also changing the lifestyles, the workstyles, and the expectations from technology – of every active blogger.
